NAIDOC Week celebrations might be winding down at Ngala, but our services for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander families continue year-round.
All of Ngala’s services are inclusive of and support Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people, but Ngala has specific services for local families, responding to local community needs. Our services are located in the Perth metro area such as Midland to Carnarvon to Geraldton.
Here is a snapshot of those key services:
SERVICES
REMOTE SCHOOL ATTENDANCE STRATEGY
The Remote School Attendance Strategy (RSAS) helps children in Carnarvon to get to school five days a week.
Ngala’s friendly staff helps find out why children can’t get to school and sees how they can help.
They work with parents, families and schools and others in the Carnarvon community.
PARENTS AND LEARNING
Based in Geraldton, Carnarvon and Mullewa, Parents and Learning (PaL) is a program for Indigenous people, by Indigenous people.
PaL is about involving parents in their child’s learning. The activities help children to learn about words and numbers and get ready for school.
KURLANGAS ABORIGINAL PLAYGROUP
Based in Banksia Grove (Perth Metro), Kurlangas Aboriginal Playgroup is for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander children aged 0-5 years and their parents or carers.
Children can play and join in with art activities. The group is run by the Patricia Giles Centre.

NGALANG MOORT NGALANG KURLANGAH (OUR FAMILY, OUR CHILDREN)
Based in the City of Swan, Ngalang Moort Ngalang Kurlangah (Our Family, Our Children) is a school-readiness program.
The program provides a space for children to play and provides parenting support.
The program also provides:
- Home visiting
- Transport to and from our groups
- Referrals to other services
- Telephone support

NAIDOC Week celebrations are held across Australia each July to celebrate the history, culture and achievements of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples. NAIDOC is celebrated not only in Indigenous communities, but by Australians from all walks of life. The week is a great opportunity to participate in a range of activities and to support your local Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander community.
